When it comes to studio photography or even natural light portraits, giving the background a little more interest can help make the image pop. With the older versions of Photo Raw, we would have to manually find the background and separate that from our subject using manual masking. In the latest version, you can see the new background instantly and add textures or other creative scene.

It used to be very easy to just open mask from photoshop or light room. Also it was very easy to just turn the background white and black. Iām hoping that is still easy. I am just having a hard time figuring out how to do it in this new update.

This mask wasn’t perfect. Where are the videos that show how to refine difficult masks, like hair? In the masking course I downloaded as a bonus, and the ones I’m finding here, the masks aren’t perfect and it doesn’t go into refining them.

Is it possible to make the background transparent so I can overlay it onto a scene?
