The first post in a three-part series from ON1 Founder and President, Craig Keudell.
July 1st marked our 15th year in business! Back in 2005, with just four employees, folding tables and chairs, and a tiny office, we set out to develop and deliver time-saving software solutions for professional and advanced amateur photographers in the digital photography and graphic design industries. Our goal was to create software that helped photographers spend more time behind their cameras, taking pictures instead of at their computer workstation.
Over the next decade and a half, our software solutions grew to a range of easy-to-use plug-in and enhancements for Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe Lightroom®, Adobe Photoshop Elements®, QuarkXPress® and the standalone applications you use and love today. Some of those popular titles included Genuine Fractals® (now ON1 Resize), Mask Pro, PhotoFrame, PhotoTools, FocalPoint, PhotoTune, Intellihance, DSLR Camera Remote, Perfect Portrait, Browse, Develop, ON1 Photo RAW, and the new ON1 360 and ON1 Photo Mobile app.
I want to thank our dedicated team of hardworking employees who have always strived to attain the goals set out in the original company mission. Each and every one of them has been committed to the success of all photographers. It’s been amazing seeing what photographers can achieve using our software applications. Of course, we wouldn’t be where we are today without our loyal customers. I want to take this opportunity to thank each customer who continues seeing the value ON1 delivers to them.
During our 15-year celebration, now is not the time we will sit back and coast along. Our ability to adapt and be flexible led us to where we are today, and there has never been a more exciting time for photographers. Our newest release, ON1 360, has been a massive hit with our customers. They can now take their photography and ON1 editing tools wherever they go for the first time. We have even more new products coming soon, we can’t wait to share them with you.
From everyone here at ON1, thank you for trusting us to be a part of your photography journey all these years.
All the Best,
Craig Keudell

On1 is great. I also have at my disposal Affinity Photo and Luminar 4. Luminar just doesn’t meet the quality of your software and the ease it is to use On1. Affinity Photo I will keep but after looking at closely it appears more suited towards the graphic designer. Just want to keep to learn more about the process. But, I think one of things that I think sets you apart is your support staff which I would guess never truly get the kudos they deserve. I have worked with Kahlie on a number of occasions and simply put she is great. When I was in management she is what I called a keeper and I can’t affort to lose her. Also, your training is excellent. I think Dylan has grown in his presentation style and the most recent training video he did on quickly adjust colors is proof of that. It was very well done. Good pace, good training tools (the little circle) etc. I will not renew any of the other two programs as I feel your product provides me with what I need for my photography. I’m not professional but I think I do a pretty good job on some of my photos if any of the comments from the On1 Facebook page is indicative of my work. Keep up the good work guys.

Please make sure these two editing tools , which are well overdue, to be included in next update
1. Polygon selction tool – this is a very useful tol and its sadly lacking – to make On1Raw better you need to included this.
2. Scaleble sun flare filter- its no good sticking a sun flare onto a image if you cannot transform it and make is scalable, there have been a lot of times when I wanted to use that filter on my images but becasue I cannot scale it, it becomes useless !
On July 15, 2020 at 1:16 pm David Price replied:
Hi John
100% agree about the Polygon Selection Tool
But the sun flare is already scalable if you use layers. seehttps://www.on1.com/videos/transforming-a-day-time-photo-into-a-moody-night-scene/
Have fun with scalable flares..

Being a low level amateur, I am having fun trying to create photos from mistakes I make with my Canon 80D. Being elderly, I have some trouble fully understanding some steps. But I keep editing, watching ON1 videos. Little by little I am broadening my capabilities in post.
One of my biggest problems is trying to remove an object in post. In most cases, it just creates a shadow of of what I trying to remove. Sometimes I am successful. In fact just this morning I was able to remove a gentlemen from the right side of my photo with one click … just like I knew what I was doing.
One of my main reasons for investing in ON1, it is a Portland, Oregon Based company. The other is I do not want another monthly bill.

It took an arduous, difficult miserable struggle to get thousands and thousands of fully keyworded and graded images and scanned slides from over 50 years of professional underwater photography from Aperture to On1, but with the lockdown I could dedicate hundreds of hours to organizing more than a hundred thousand images (including many duplicates scattered over two computers, two hard drives, the cloud and two raids) so that now On1 could do its magic and I love it. I can control the single images explicitly and discard all exports after they have done their jobs instead of languishing in a folder somewhere. And now that I am learning how to process them in On1 (some of your tools are so much easier) I just need to wean myself off of PhotoShop which is second nature to me. Already I see many steps that are much easier and more effective that PS (like putting the relevant sliders in one pane–genious!) and the numerous training videos are terrific. Well done, and thank you for all the help in answering my questions. (I still have a few more–like when can you add stacking– many of my images that I want to combine come from very different file names and dates but I want to see just the one when I scroll through a few thousand images from the same dive location.)

So true. What a long journey it has been. My parents taught me that whatever I wished to own I should wait until the day I could afford to buy it – for cash. Never a lender or a borrower be! That has been my mantra throughout life though I have to confess I fell at the first hurdle with my first house! Nevertheless I eventually achieved my goal and ever since then I detest using anything I do not own outright-car(they make that more and more difficult by the day!), house, camera or photographic application, otherwise they merely become a steady drain on my resources. During this lockdown I thank my Mum and Dad I owe nobody a bean.
I have in front of me my copy of Adobe Photoshop Album from 2003 which I duly registered by Fax so I could keep up to date- for free. What a shame that such a super idea could eventually become so expensive and complicated. Keep it simple. Keep it fun. Don’t get greedy. Great product. I wish you every success for the future.

It was a “dead” company for PhotoFrame I had the software from for WIN XP(?) that was bought by you… And you built it up to what it is now from the ground up… Thank you… Though I am in Central PA now (yeah, Amish country), I’ve always, always made it a point to visit your booth at the Javitz Center Photoplus Expo… Brian Matiash, Dan Harlacher, Matt Kloskowski (after NAPP), and others were those I saw there all the time… and, of course, I can’t forget my buddy, Nathan, your nephew… he’s been great with me…always…
Always touting your software wherever I get to talk about it to fellow photographers… Some know you, some already have your product, others I introduce it for the first time… With this pandemic stuff, though, it’s been tough to be “Creative” right now, right? Keep up the great work… you’ll show those Adobe people up….
Been trying to get to Nathan… let him know please? Would like to “catch up” with him…

Thank you, during the coronavirus lockdown I discovered ON 1. So a Johnny come late users I wish I found it earlier. With RAW and Mobile 360 great software for photo file management. RAW has open up the door to make photo editing fun.

I have been a user since Perfect Photo and the products just get better. The resulting photos from these tools are simply awesome when looking at the ON1 Gallery, Flickr or 500px. They have made post-processing almost as fun as taking the picture.
In Craig’s assessment I was curious that there was no mention to Plus or Video. Plus being a great service and community helping to make sense of both photography and post-processing. Video is an anticipated new direction for ON1. I believe these have and will make ON1 better.

Thank you On1 team
I now only use On1 for all my editing requirements (apart from titling my images in Photoshop).
As a retired photographer with a studio, I still enjoy taking photos
Landscapes wild life and the family. Living on the Somerset coast we have a lot of keen photographers amerture and professionals,
Visiting the area and I alaways recommend they have a look at On1.
Once again thanks for a great product at a good price.
Best regards to all

On1 is a very unique company in today’s world. They truly care about their customers. It seems to me that the On1 team is my partners. They are always there to help me. They spend a great amount of time and money to provide free training in their many videos.
This is hands-down the best software I have seen. I have been a pro-shooter since 1985. On1 is the BEST!

We need content aware in On1, which is now included inside Lightroom. The cloning tools in On1 just don’t cut it anymore and are basically meant for spot removal and not anything more complex or replacing an object that’s against a complex background. Without this content aware functionality, it would appear that On1 has a limited life expectancy. I’ve been using On1 since version 2 (could have been 1.x if there was such a release) so I’ve stuck with On1 until now, however, I have no desire to get on to the Adobe subscription wagon train as their recent publicity over their terms of service is enough to put anybody off.
