Looking for the best photo enlargement software for gallery-quality prints? Whether you’re preparing your first exhibition or creating large prints for a client, ON1 Resize AI delivers exceptional detail and clarity—at any size.
Recently, longtime photographer Bob Eckert used ON1 Resize AI to prepare a series of 8-foot-long prints to celebrate Santa Fe’s 20th anniversary as a UNESCO Creative City. With help from Resize AI, his portraits were transformed into large-format masterpieces—some from scans of small prints—without compromising detail or sharpness.
Here’s how it all came together.
Bringing Artists to Life Through Environmental Portraiture
Bob Eckert began his career in the early 1970s and has long been known for his authentic, environmental portrait style. “I photograph people where they create—usually their homes or studios,” he says. Using natural light from windows or blinds, he builds trust through conversation before ever picking up the camera.
This thoughtful process leads to portraits that tell stories, like the portrait of the father-son carving duo Felix and Joseph Lopez, captured mid-process.
From a 4×5 Walgreens Print to an 8-Foot Gallery Display
One of the artist’s favorite images—a portrait of Camilla Trujillo with her dog—was originally a Walgreens 4×5 photo. After rescanning, removing dust and scratches, and sharpening, he used ON1 Resize AI to enlarge the file.
“I really hadn’t held much hope for this particular image,” he shares, “but the results blew me away.”
It became one of the first prints visitors saw upon entering the exhibit.
Why Choose ON1 Resize AI for Large-Format Printing?
ON1 Resize AI has become one of the most powerful large-format printing tools available with a history that traces back to the original Genuine Fractals. “Each version gets more robust,” the photographer noted. “I’ve never printed this large before, and I didn’t want to be disappointed. But Resize exceeded expectations.”
The results? Crisp, high-resolution photo enlargements that looked even better than expected.
Seeing Your Work Larger Than Life
While he’s accustomed to magazine and newspaper publishing, this experience was something new. “Seeing my subjects printed larger than life was a treat,” he said. “The feedback from attendees and the artists was overwhelmingly positive.”
Even better, the event led to new opportunities, including corporate inquiries about incorporating gallery-ready prints into headquarters artwork.
Advice to First-Time Exhibitors
His advice for those preparing their first gallery show?
“To be as selective and critical as possible when selecting work to be shown in public or published. For any gallery show or exhibition, but especially for a first time, you want to show work which needs no explanation and certainly doesn’t need any apologies. If you have any doubt about an image or its reproduction quality, then it probably shouldn’t be included. This goes for galleries as well as presentations to potential clients such as advertising agencies. The old adage, Put your best foot forward, is apt. Let the work – your best work – speak for itself.”

It’s a pity that there is no explanation of how you can actually do this. A 4×5 picture enlarged by 400% gives you a new one that is 8×10 and certainly not 8 foot. Maybe Dylan should make a video about it.

Yes, a very nice tool.
I use it for exibitions and advertising, and here too sometimes we have to deal with small resolution images.
It does to job very precisely.
Love it.
